Medient to acquire German-based film distributor

Medient Studios Inc. (OTCQB: MDNT) announced Thursday it has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire German-based Atlas International Film GmbH.

The announcement said Atlas has a large client base of U.S. and International film distributors and content producers. With its access to various investment groups and financing sources globally, the combination of Medient and Atlas will benefit from the film production and post-production infrastructure at the 1,550-acre movie complex Medient is building in Effingham County.

“Atlas is a specialist in the exploitation of action, horror and related genres and is a wonderful strategic fit for Medient given our focus on these genres as the core output from the Studioplex,” said Manu Kumaran, chairman of Medient. Medient’s statement said the company will unveil its movie production slate for 2014 in the near future.

Pilot solar power program launched for S.C. schools

Some students in South Carolina may see solar panels on their school’s rooftops through a pilot program sponsored by Palmetto Clean Energy (PaCE), a nonprofit that promotes renewable energy resources.

The Solar Matching Grant Pilot will target K-12 schools in South Carolina. The $250,000 program will cover 50 percent of a school’s rooftop solar installation – up to $50,000. K-12 schools and not-for-profit 501(c)3 educational institutions in South Carolina are eligible.

The program is aimed at enabling more schools and educational institutions to take advantage of solar technologies by assisting with upfront costs involved with installation.

The pilot program is funded by a contribution by Duke Energy.

Requirements for the program are available at: http://www.palmettocleanenergy.org/renewable/solar_matching_guidelines.asp

Application forms are due Oct. 1, and awards will be announced Nov. 15.
