Step Up Savannah requests

nominations for awards

Step Up Savannah is now accepting nominations for The Workplace Innovator Award, given each year to recognize a business that pursues innovation in the workplace for its lower-wage workers. The selected business understands the value in assisting their lower-wage employees (defined as those earning at or below $12 an hour) and has implemented creative programs or procedures to support their development.

The award is unique in Savannah. Past winners include IKEA, Memorial Health University Medical Center, DIRTT Environmental Solutions, and St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical System.

Recipients are presented the award at the Step Up Annual Meeting at a breakfast scheduled this year on October 18 at Savannah Technical College.

Nominations are due Aug. 30 and will be evaluated by a team of judges; download the “2013 Workplace Innovator Nomination form” on Step Up’s website:

Boys & Girls Clubs

receives donation

100 Women Who Care has donated $6500 to the Frank Callen Boys & Girld Clubs musical instrument program.

The donation is to help encourage children to learn to play music.

“I look forward to coming back and hearing the music,” said Linda Drake of 100 Women Who Care. “I’ve got grandchildren, so it’s really exciting to see them get something and you know learn something along the way.”

The one-year-old women’s group is made up of women who contribute $100 four times a year to donate to local charities.

General Dynamics board declares dividend

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – The board of directors of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) today declared a regular quarterly dividend of 56 cents per share on the company’s common stock, payable Nov. 15, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Oct. 11.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., employs approximately 90,100 people worldwide. The company is a market leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and information systems and technologies. It is the parent company of Gulfstream Aviation.
