OSHA cites Brooklet farm for violations

BROOKLET — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Greg Sikes LLC, doing business as Greg Sikes Farm LLC, with two willful and five serious safety violations and proposed penalties of $127,400.

The Brooklet farm was inspected in February upon notice that a worker had become trapped inside a grain handling storage bin while attempting to clear soybeans from a jammed auger.

Two willful violations involve failing to ensure the screw auger is locked out when workers are inside the bin and to provide workers with a body harness with a lifeline when they go into the bin. Six serious violations include failing to develop an emergency action plan, provide annual training on grain handling hazards and obtain permits addressing bin entry procedures and requirements.

SCAD adds degree programs in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Savannah College of Art and Design will offer two new degree programs at its Atlanta location beginning this fall: Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts in film and television.

Both course have been offered exclusively at SCAD Savannah in the past.

The film and television master’s programs at SCAD Atlanta will provide students access to complementary programs such as motion media design, advertising, animation and visual effects.

“Expanding SCAD’s graduate degrees in film and television beyond Savannah brings students into even closer contact with opportunities proliferating just beyond our doorstep,” said Chris Auer, chair of SCAD’s film and television department.
