Chamber exec joins Washington lobby effort

Sandi Reese, president and CEO of the Greater Savannah Black and Minority Chamber of Commerce, joined the U.S Black Chamber, White House and Obama Administration officials and the White House Office of Public Engagement for a White House briefing and advocacy day at the U.S Capitol on July 19.

The focus of the invitation-only briefing was to discuss how the administration is impacting issues of concern in the African American business community.

Key issues discussed included focusing on jobs and economic development, access to capital, minority contracting and small business creation.

Reese said the local group was thrilled to have served as an “ambassador” on behalf of the city of Savannah.

Junior League’s thrift sale scheduled

The 66th annual Junior League of Savannah Thrift Sale will be held Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center. Admission is $5 on Friday and $3 on Saturday. Items sold on Saturday are half-price. Parking is free.

Tickets may be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office, 912-651-6556, or online at jrleaguesav.org. Merchandise includes appliances, children’s clothes and toys, holiday decorations, books, CDs, housewares, linens, exercise equipment, furniture and more.

A limited number of tickets will be sold to the Thrift Sale Preview Party and Auction on Oct. 3 beginning 5:30 p.m. Guests who buy preview party tickets can shop before the sale opens on Friday and participate in a silent and live auction.

‘Sustainability’ session set for Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Experience Green will host ‘Sustainability in Golf… Beyond the Green’ Oct. 3-4 at the Sea Pines Resort, an educational event about sustainability that includes balancing environmental stewardship with impacts on quality of life and the economy.

The event will include:

• A symposium of collaborative discussions, idea and information exchanges via panel discussions with regional and national sustainability and golf experts;

• Tour of an Audubon-certified golf course in The Sea Pines Resort;

• Tour of Harbour Town Golf Links 18th Green Marsh Restoration and Stabilization Project;

• Sunset Reception in Harbour Town;

• Golf outing on the Ocean Course in the Sea Pines Resort.
