Manufacturer sets up in Beaufort County
DUER High Performance Composites, a maker of composite components, has established its new production facility in Beaufort County, S.C. The more than $1 million investment is expected to generate 47 new jobs.
“We look forward to getting our new operations up and running in Beaufort County. South Carolina has provided us with an excellent business, environment and we are proud to join the strengthening manufacturing community,” said owner Tauri Duer.
DUER has put its operations in an existing building at 20 Eleanor Fine Road in Beaufort and began operations in August. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a set aside grant of $50,000 for building upfit.

Dollar General foundation donates to Chatham Academy
Chatham Academy, a school for chldren with learning disabilities, has received a $2,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to provide a new program to help improve reading comprehension.
The grant will be used to buy the Fusion Reading program, which is designed to close the achievement gap for struggling readers who have learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders and other learning or literacy needs.
The program will allow teachers to work with students individually to improve reading skills.
Savannah Hardscapes opens Charleston office
William and Jonathan Rhangos, co-owners of Savannah Hardscapes Construction, have announced the opening of a new office in Charleston, S.C.
Savannah Hardscapes, a regional construction company, has worked throughout the Bluffton/Hilton Head/Savannah area for more than 17 years and is expanding into the Charleston market.
Adam Kaylor, a Charleston native who graduated from Clemson University and has a broad background in construction, surfacing materials and sales, will operate the new office.
In addition to running the Charleston office, Kaylor will manage project installation in the Charleston, Bluffton/Hilton Head and Savannah areas.
‘Operation fairy gown mother’ launched for military ball
Since Nov. 10, 1775, the U.S.Marine Corps has celebrates its birthday with a formal ball. This year to mark the 238th gala, Chris and Maria Skrip, owners of RE/MAX Island Realty. are collecting previously worn gowns from women in our communities to help ease the financial burden for Marine wives.
In 2012, more than 400 gowns were donated for “Operation Fairy Gown Mother.”
