Manufacturing growth meeting set

The Savannah Economic Development Authority, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Tech will hold a manufacturing growth meeting at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 19 in the Savannah Morning News auditorium at 1375 Chatham Parkway.

Designed for manufacturers, “Using Lean to Grow Business” will help participants identify various ways to free up their plants’ resources and transform excess capacity into new business opportunities.

Engineering firm makes ‘hot’ list

Mobile, Ala. — Hargrove Engineers + Constructors, which has an office in Savannah, was recently named ninth in the 2013 Zweig Letter Hot Firm List, which recognizes the 100 fastest-growing architecture, engineering, planning and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada.

“Our revenue is up 35 percent over this time last year. We are honored to be included in this list,” said Brian Rhoades, Hargrove’s vice president for operations.

Hargrove previously ranked 25th in the Zweig Letter Hot Firm List. The ranking is based on a firm’s percentage of revenue growth and dollar revenue growth over a three-year period.

Member appreciation event scheduled

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce will host Prime Time, a member appreciation after-hours event at Hilton Head BMW in Bluffton from 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 19.

Festivities will include an Italian buffet from Carrabba’s Italian Grill along with complimentary beer and wine, signature drinks, live music and special door prizes.

The event is designed to feature 180 new members of the chamber.

Communication workshop offered at Coastal Center

Georgia Southern University’s Division of Continuing Education will offer a workshop on effective business communication from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St.

The workshop with presenter and communication expert Frank J. Mendelson offers an interactive approach to identify three essential components that make communications succeed.

The seminar “Empowering HR to Communicate Effectively” is open to all professions. Participants who are certified as Professionals in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professionals in Human Resources (SPHR) earn 2.0 general recertification credit hours upon completion of the workshop.
