Target awards grant to Habit Savannah

Habitat for Humanity Savannah has received a $3,000 grant from Target to help defray the costs of Habitat Savannah’s homeownership program.

Virginia Brown, Habitat’s executive director, accepted the check at a presentation attended last week by several Target team members, including Melinda Macdonald, general manager of Target’s regional distribution center in Midway.

Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income — more than $4 million every week — to communities.

Lunch and learn to discuss food, farming

STATESBORO — The lunch-and-learn series returns to the Garden of the Coastal Plain at Georgia Southern University from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Garden’s Heritage Pavilion, 1505 Bland Ave., with a presentation on seeds, food and farming from author Janisse Ray.

Ray will discuss seed saving, healthy food and farming and other issues in her presentation titled “The Future of Food: Heirlooms of the Past and the Art of Seed Saving.”

Cost is $20, and reservations are required. Call 912-871-1149.

Human services agency accredited

LifeShare Management Group, a human services agency with an office in Savannah that works with people with developmental disabilities and at-risk youth, has achieved national accreditation through the New York-based Council on Accreditation.

COA evaluated all aspects of LifeShare’s programs, services, management, and administration. The COA accreditation process is voluntary and took LifeShare more than a year to complete.

Hospital announces arrangement with Atlanta GI

STATESBORO — East Georgia Regional Medical Center has reached an agreement to take over operations at Statesboro Gastroenterology P.C. and Bulloch County Endoscopy Center.

Hospital officials said they will be working over the next several months to transition the clinic and integrate the staff with the hospital. The center will operate as part of the hospital’s endoscopy center but will close temporarily during the transition.

Is starting a business for you?

The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension-Chatham County and Small Business Development Center will offer a workshop to help individuals think through the decision to start a business.

Participants in the 90-minute workshop will learn how to identify frauds and scams billed as business opportunities; consider space and time needs; identify factors that contribute to success and other issues.

The session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept.30 at the Moses Jackson Advancement Center, 1410B Richards St.
