Fallen soldier exhibit comes to mall

The Savannah Mall will unveil “Remembering Our Fallen,” a 50-foot exhibit commemorating fallen soldiers, on Saturday at noon in the Center Court.

The traveling exhibit, which pays tribute to U.S. troops from Georgia who have died from wounds suffered in war zones since Sept. 11, 2001, will be on display through Jan. 5.

“During this time of year when families and friends come together to celebrate the holidays, the Savannah Mall would like to take a moment to pause and honor our fellow Georgians who have given their lives protecting our country,” said mall manager Phil McConnell. “We hope the community will visit the exhibit and take part in this very special and moving tribute.”

Bill and Evonne Williams, of Omaha, Neb., whose four sons have served in the military, developed the tribute. It includes formal military photos, along with favorite personal photos supplied by family members of the fallen soldiers.

Banking magazine recognizes The Coastal Bank

Independent Banker magazine gave The Coastal Bank a shout-out in its October edition for the bank’s efforts to help business customers making their computer systems safer.

The magazine said the bank began its education program because bank executives realized too many businesses assume banks carry insurance to cover all cyber losses.

Plus, the magazine executives at The Coastal Bank understood businesses had misinformation about cyber risks and didn’t realize that common practices, such as using open Wi-Fi access at Starbucks, made sensitive information more vulnerable.

In response, the magazine wrote, bank officials designed a program to share knowledge they already possessed from Bank Secrecy Act and Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council guidelines.

The began with weekly education events and later was asked to teach classes for other businesses and business organizations.
