La Bastille to open New York showroom
Savannah-based La Bastille, a company that designs and builds luxury custom interior surfaces, will open its first showroom in the New York Design Center in New York city on Dec. 1.
LaBastille, 224 E. Bay St., opened three years ago with a team of three artisans and has since added 18 employees and a satellite office in Lyon, France.
The company bills itself as the largest U.S. manufacturer of custom zinc and pewter installations for hotels and restaurants as well as celebrity homes.
The New York showroom will have about 1,700 square feet and will house the cast zinc, pewter and zinc sheet installations for which La Bastille is known.
“Showcasing these one-of-a-kind surfaces and furnishings in the New York Design Center is a dream come true … and the next logical step for our quickly expanding company,” said La Bastille principal Katiana Plummer.

Food bank receives Kroger donation
The Kroger Co. has presented America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia with a check for $19,364 as part of a round-up campaign that ran for eleven days in September in eleven Kroger stores in the Savannah area.
Kroger initiated the campaign in the wake of the sudden collapse of the food bank’s 30,000-square-foot freezer during a storm over Labor Day weekend.
“We thank our loyal customers for helping give back to an organization that has given so much to us,” said Kroger spokesman Glynn Jenkins.
Second Harvest has been using five tractor-trailer freezer units that run on diesel fuel for its refrigeration needs and expects to have to raise about $200,000 to replace the permanent units.
