Berwick Goodwill opening in southwest Chatham County
Goodwill of the Coastal Empire will hold the grand opening of the newest Goodwill Store and Donation Center, located at the Berwick Shopping Plaza at 5710 Ogeechee Road, at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The Berwick Goodwill Store and Donation Center will be the nonprofit’s 17th retail location in the Coastal Empire.
“We hope to provide Southside Savannah shoppers with a new experience,” said Coni Curtas, vice president of donated goods. “The Berwick Goodwill Store will have a new look and new location but same good prices.”
The store will be open to the public with a full selection of merchandise.
Non-profit gives special bikes to kids
AMBUCS, a nonprofit group dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities, gave 22 children new bikes earlier this month during an event at Benedictine Military School.
The bikes, called AMTRYKES, are specially adapted three-wheel bikes for differently abled children and adults who deal with conditions such as traumatic brain injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, mental delays, autism and muscular dystrophy.
Each AMTRYKE costs about $600 and is specially fitted to each child’s needs and abilities.

Developers invited to apply for affordable housing loans
ATLANTA — Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) announced Monday it’s inviting local for-profit and nonprofit developers to apply for loans through for the 2014 Affordable Housing Program (AHP).
The grants are awarded in partnership with an FHLBank Atlanta member to help bring affordable housing to local communities. Homebuilders and nonprofit organizations can qualify for grants ranging up to $500,000.
FHLBank Atlanta awards affordable housing funds annually through a competitive application process.
Applications are due by Feb. 13. Register by going to the bank’s website, www.fhlbatl.com.
Potential applicants must partner with an FHLBank Atlanta member financial institutions to complete the AHP application. Carver State Bank and First Chatham Bank in Savannah are member banks.
New CEO named for Aggregates USA
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Aggregates USA’s board of directors has elected Bill Niketas as chief executive officer. He previously served as the company’s chief financial officer.
Aggregates USA produces construction aggregates in the southeastern United States and employs more than 200 people at more than 20 locations in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Its sites include the Savannah Materials Yard at 1 Foundation Drive.
Niketas succeeds J. Stuart Ryan, who served Aggregates USA for two years as interim CEO and will remain as chairman of the board of Aggregates USA.
