Rotary Club of Savannah to get historical marker

The Georgia Historical Society and the Rotary Club of Savannah will unveil a new historical marker on Jan. 6 to commemorate the club’s centennial.

The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Bull and Liberty streets in front of the DeSoto Hilton.

The marker will note that the club met for the first time at the DeSoto Hotel on Jan. 5, 1914, and was founded by John S. Banks and a group of local businessmen.

The marker reads, in part:

The Savannah club sponsored the formation of eight others around the state. Together, they championed local and regional developments including completing the road to Tybee Island, improving the Savannah River for commercial traffic, enhancing the Dixie Highway system in southeast Georgia, and building bridges over the Savannah and Altamaha Rivers.

Island Links earns ‘gold crown’ honor

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Island Links has been awarded the RCI Gold Crown Resort property designation by RCI, a vacation timeshare exchange network.

The Gold Crown recognition, according to RCI, is based on a 12-month compilation of guest assessments, which include resort quality, service delivery and overall vacation experience as well as an evaluation of resort facilities, amenities and guest services.

Island Links has won the award for 10 years in a row. The resort is one of four properties — collectively referred to as the Coral Resorts family of properties — to be honored for excellence in accommodations and hospitality, and RCI subscribing member experience.

The additional properties include Port O’Call, Coral Reef Resort and Coral Sands Resort.

“RCI presents this award in recognition of meeting and exceeding the vacation experiences of your owners and RCI subscribing members. We’re thrilled with your accomplishments,” said Gordon Gurnik, president of RCI.
