Gas prices drop in metro Savannah

Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have fallen 3.2 cents a gallon in the past week to $3.24 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah. The national average has fallen 2.2 cents a gallon in the last week to $3.27, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Prices Sunday were 10.9 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 0.7 cents a gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 4.7 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 1 cent higher than a year ago.

“It’s likely that during this week, we will see gasoline prices again drop below their year ago levels yet again,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. “However, as we’re approaching February, the most recent drops will likely reverse as refineries begin their maintenance season, which will see refineries doing critical work preparing for summer at the expense of gasoline output, which will be a contributing factor to an upward rise in gas prices.”

Tesla Motors opens S.C. electric charging near I-95

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Tesla Motors has opened an electric vehicle charging station in South Carolina off Interstate 95 in Santee that will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported the station has six stalls and will serve Tesla Model S electric sedans and all future Tesla models.

California-based Tesla Motors designs and manufactures electric vehicles, as well as powertrain components for partners such as Toyota and Daimler.

The firm said the station is Tesla’s first in the state. The next nearest one is at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. Tesla says the stations provide half a charge in about 20 minutes and a full charge in about 75 minutes.
