Gas prices down slightly in metro Savannah
Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have fallen 1.8 cents a gallon in the past week to $3.23 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah.
The national average has not moved in the last week at $3.27, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Prices Sunday were 15.0 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 8.0 cents a gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 1.6 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 4.4 cents lower than a year ago.
Kroger to open Mall Boulevard fuel center today
A new Kroger fuel center being built in conjunction with a new Kroger store at 315 Mall Blvd. will open today, eight weeks before the scheduled opening of the store on April 2.
The new Fuel Center — open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. — will offer 18 fueling pumps, including 10 diesel fuel pumps. For more information about the Fuel Reward Program, go to www.kroger.com/fuel.
The overall project includes a $40 million store with 123,678 square feet that will generate 250 new jobs and will include a drive-thru pharmacy, jewelry store and other features.
Hilton Head Chamber renews destination marketing accreditation
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce has once again earned its accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program.
The international accreditation program was developed by the Washington, D.C.-based Destination Marketing Association International. To maintain accreditation, organizations have to demonstrate a significant measure of excellence in destination management and marketing.
“We are very pleased to continue to be recognized for our commitment to sound financial management, transparency and other international benchmarks and standards set by the destination marketing community,” said Bill Miles, chamber president and CEO.
Artists’ retreat scheduled on Tybee
Mermaid Cottages, a vacation rental company on Tybee Island, will hold its third annual Mermaids Who Create Retreat on Feb. 6-9.
Each winter, Mermaid Cottages invites artists and writers for a complimentary stay with the goal of providing an atmosphere that allows them to create art that ranges from writing to photography.
In conjunction with their stay, guests will submit an artistic work to Mermaid Cottages to be included in a published compendium of stories and artwork about Tybee Island.
