2014 Encourage Health Education Series to begin in February

A series of five lectures focused on wellness will be launched in late February to benefit local nonprofit organizations as part of the ‘2014 Encourage Health Education Series.’

The lectures will be sponsored by Enmark Stations in partnership with Healthy Savannah, the Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine and WJCL.

The events will take place on the last Tuesday of February, April, June, August and October. They will feature presentations on nutrition, fitness and general tips for healthy living.

On Tuesday, Feb. 25, Peter Brodhead, owner of Brighter Day Natural Foods, will discuss ‘12 Rules to Greater Health.’ The selected charity for Brodhead’s lecture is the West Broad Street YMCA.

On April 29, Paula Kreissler, director of Healthy Living & Community Development Healthy Savannah and YMCA of Coastal Georgia, will talk about ‘Five Strategies for Busy Families to Stay Healthy.’ The selected charity is Girls on the Run.

On June 24, John Bennett, executive director of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign, will detail ’Five Ways to Make Bicycling a Healthy Part of Your Daily Life.’ Proceeds will go to the Savannah Bicycle Campaign.

On Aug. 26, Kerri Goodrich, founder and director of Performance Initiatives, will explain five ways weight lifting helps burn body fat. Her charity is Performance Initiatives.

On Oct. 28, Bert Tenenbaum, corporate director of wellness at Reliance Steel & Aluminum, parent company of Chatham Steel, will talk about his “corporation’s 5 waypoints on their journey to wellness.” Proceeds will go to the YMCA of Coastal Georgia.

The lectures are held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the auditorium of the Savannah Morning News, 1375 Chatham Parkway.

Lunch and lecture Tickets are $20 sold at the door. Checks should be made to the benefiting charity for each lecture. Enmark will match all proceeds and will present a check to the designated charity at each lecture.
