BiS in brief: Savannah gas prices dip slightly

Savannah gas prices dip slightly

Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah fell 0.4 cents a gallon in the past week to $3.33 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah. The national average has increased 3.4 cents a gallon in the last week to $3.47, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Prices Sunday were 30.6 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 7.0 cents a gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 18.5 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 19.1 cents lower than a year ago.

“As refinery maintenance season is now in its prime, and will be for several weeks, motorists could see additional volatility at the pump should issues or unexpected problems arise with this period of maintenance,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. “Then, as refineries get back online, the volatility will ebb, and prices will slow their climb, but all of that light at the end of the tunnel remains several weeks away.”

Savannah gets St. Patrick’s accolade

Savannah has been named No. 4 in the “Top 10 Grand St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations” by National Geographic Traveler.

“The timing of the announcement by National Geographic Traveler is ideal as we prepare for the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the South and for the thousands of visitors who will come to our city,” said Visit Savannah President Joe Marinelli.

Out-of-town visitors can still find hotel rooms, bed and breakfasts and vacation home rentals, Marinelli said.

“With the holiday on Monday this year, many folks are planning a three-, four- or even five-day visit,” he said.
