St. Joseph’s/Candler has been awarded a $35,000 grant by It’s The Journey Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will go to the Telfair Mammography Fund, which helps uninsured women receive mammograms and other breast health treatment.

“We are so excited that this generous grant will help us provide mammography services for more underserved women in our community,” said Lora Reese, manager of the Telfair Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler. “The supporters and participants of the 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer work very hard to raise the funds that make these life-saving exams available.”

This grant is one of 22 awarded by It’s The Journey this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.

“We work all year for this one night — to present grants to the most deserving breast health and breast cancer programs in the state,” said Kimberly Goff, executive director of It’s The Journey Inc. “We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical breast exams to hereditary screening and wellness programs. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities.”

It’s The Journey Inc. produces the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an annual walk that raises funds for breast health and breast cancer programs in Georgia. Twenty-two deserving organizations across the state were awarded grants.

Recipients included those who provide screening and diagnostic mammograms to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices, offer multi-language treatment options and provide wellness, counseling and rehabilitations services. The 2014 Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer takes place Oct. 11-12. All of the money raised stays in Georgia. To register for the 2-Day Walk, go to www.2daywalk.org.
