Design competition announced for K-12 students

Savannah Technical College is accepting entries for the 17th annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week student design competition, which is open to all elementary, middle and high school students.

The contest is held in conjunction with manufacturers’ appreciation week to promote awareness of the role manufacturing plays in the state’s economy — jobs for about 408,000 people.

Art for placemats and posters should portray manufacturing specific to the student’s local area, while T-shirt designs should depict manufacturing taking place in the entire state.

Elementary school children may compete in the placemat competition; middle school students may compete in the poster contest; and high school students may participate in the T-shirt design competition.

Mail or deliver entries by Jan. 25 to Savannah Technical College, 5717 White Bluff Road, Savannah, GA 31405, Attention: Office of Marketing and Communications. Entries may also be delivered to the Effingham Campus (2890 Ga. 21 South, Rincon, GA 31326) or Liberty Campus (100 Technology Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313).

Service matches retired executives with nonprofits

BLUFFTON S.C. — Encore Professionals Group (EPG), a new consulting service for nonprofits staffed by retired executives and professionals, is looking for project leaders.

EPG links retirees with specific business, leadership or professional skills with short-term, strategic projects at Lowcountry nonprofits. Unlike SCORE and other advisory groups, EPG volunteers will take a project from design to implementation, the group’s founder, Susan Harper, said.

“They plan it, launch it, develop metrics for success and train staff to run it,” she said.

Volunteers put the program in place and then leave, Harper said.

For more information, call Susan Harper at 773-725-2750, email info@encoreprofessionalsgroup.com or go to encore professionalsgroup.com.
