Savannah gas prices slip slightly

Average retail gasoline prices in Savannah have fallen 0.4 cents a gallon in the past week to $3.36 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 262 gas outlets in Savannah. The national average has not moved in the last week at $3.51 gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Prices Sunday were 20.5 cents a gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 3.6 cents a gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 10.2 cents a gallon during the last month and stands 13.0 cents lower than a year ago.


Jersey Mike’s will Wednesday sales to Children’s Hospital

The five Jersey Mike’s restaurants in the Savannah area will donate 100 percent of their sales Weednesday to the Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center through their “day of giving” fundraising event.

Wednesday’s donations will cap a month-long campaign by the Jersey Mike’s outlets on the part of the Children’s Hospital.

The local event is part of nationwide effort that, last year, raised $1.7 million for 86 local charities.


SCAD wins first quarter’s Golden Broom award

The Savannah College of Art and Design will receive the Golden Broom award for the first quarter of 2014 Thursday from the Savannah Downtown Redevelopment Authority.

The presentation will be made at 10:30 a.m. at 3116 Montgomery St. by representatives from the Savannah Development & Renewal Authority, Sanitation Outreach and Education Coordinator, the Downtown Business Association, and the Savannah Morning News.

SCAD was chosen because of their ongoing contribution to beautifying Savannah’s greater downtown community.

Ace Hardware to open in Buckwalter Place

BLUFFTON, S.C. — Ace Hardware has announced it will open a 12,000-square-foot store with a 3,000-square-foot garden center later this year in Buckwalter Place

“We are really excited to be coming to Bluffton and Buckwalter Place,” said Bobby Heuser, co-owner of Heuser Enterprises. “This store is all about servicing the community and allowing us to create a family friendly store where customers can get to know their ACE team.”

The store will offer a variety of paint, lawn and garden tools and local niche services.

It’s slated to open in November, and a news release said plans for a ground-breaking ceremony will be forthcoming.
