Rotary Club awards Century of Service grants

The Rotary Club of Savannah has announced that ten recipients have been selected for the Century Service Award, given in honor of the club’s 100th Anniversary.

The award, comprised of ten $1,000 grants, is designed to provide funds for business enhancements.

Recipients include:

• Bethesda Academy to create a Spanish program; Chatham-Savannah Citizen Advocacy for new technology;

• Georgia Historical Society for video and software equipment to support the GHS School Tube site;

• Georgia Legal Services for new technology; Historic Savannah Foundation to supply the Hands on History program;

• Live Oak Public Libraries to build a Resume Completion Station;

• National Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force to reprint books and update display cases;

• Savannah Speech and Hearing for new technology;

• Savannah Tree Foundation for new wheel barrows; and

• Telfair Museum of Art to install audio-visual overflow PA system in the Jepson Center Auditorium.

 

Specialty Flooring opens South Carolina showroom

Ridgeland, S.C. – Specialty Flooring has opened a 3,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse at 6983 N. Okatie Highway in Ridgeland S.C.

The company will offer more than 700 hardwood flooring options at the new location, including antique heartwood pine, reclaimed vintage barn woods, exotic woods and engineered hardwoods.

Specialty Flooring also offers complete restoration services for existing wood floors.

Hiring practices seminar scheduled

Georgia Southern University’s Division of Continuing Education presents its professional development seminar, “LAW 126: Best Practices in the Hiring Process, including Background Checks” from 6-7:30 p.m. on April 1 at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St.

The seminar will be taught by attorney Wade Herring III who will explain which federal requirements must be followed when hiring a new employee, which steps are required and which are optional when placing a position ad, conducting E-verification,employment history verification, school record reviews, criminal history checks and credit history requests.

Junior League accepting scholarship applications

The Junior League of Savannah is accepting applications for college scholarships through its Kids Who Care program.

Scholarships worth $5,000 are available to high school seniors in recognition of their volunteer service and community involvement. Nominations may be made by anyone.
