Effingham County-based Medient Studios, Inc. announced today that it will produce an espionage thriller titled “Kickback” later this year.
A Medient news release said the film is based on an autobiographical novel by journalist Rocky Utang and will be shot in the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.
Kickback is the story of a renegade Moscow detective who defies government pressure to investigate the mysterious assassination of a maverick reporter.
Raza Mallal will be the director, the company says, and the cast will include John Cusack along with Famke Janssen and Mischa Barton, Sean Austin and Rutger Hauer.
Medient is planning to build a 1,550-acre production complex in Effingham County.
