Business in Savannah in brief

Record amount raised for cancer programs and research

The 12th Annual Candler Clays Charity Shoot and Auction raised more than $110,000 — a record for the event — for cancer research and programs in the Savannah region.

The February event supported the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler.

Candler Clays is an annual two-day event combining a charity auction of items donated by local merchants and a clay shooting competition at the Forest City Gun Club. This year, 252 shooters on 63 teams competed. The Rives E. Worrell Company was the presenting sponsor. The previous record was $79,000 in 2013.

Each year the event honors a cancer survivor or memorializes someone who died of cancer. This year’s honoree was Hoke St. Clair Bouchillon, who was a patient at the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion.

Free small business financing forum

The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center and Celtic Bank will host a Small Business Financing Forum on Thursday, April 24, at the Savannah SBDC, 1111 E. Liberty St.

The forum will review the use of working capital term loans of up to $50,000 to finance day-to-day operations. Most companies need working capital to conduct business, and this program will offer an overview of using this resource.

The program will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Celtic Bank is sponsoring the program, and registration is required. To register, visit www.savannahsbdc.org.
