Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens was on hand at America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia on Monday morning at 2501 E. President St. to kick off the third annual statewide Georgia Legal Food Frenzy.

The office of the attorney general, the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Food Bank Association have joined forces to create a food and fund drive competition among Georgia law firms, law schools and legal organizations to support the Feeding America food banks in Georgia.

Since its inception in 2012, this competition has raised the equivalent of more than 1.4 million pounds of food.

The goal of the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy is to raise food and funds for Georgia’s seven regional Feeding America food banks, which work with more than 2,300 partner agencies and pantries to distribute more than 103 million pounds of food annually to all 159 counties in Georgia.

The competition will occur as food banks are preparing for summer months when they see a spike in demand. Food collected locally from this drive will be donated directly to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
