Karen Morgan, who works in Memorial University Medical Center’s cardiovascular intensive care unit, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses on Wednesday.
The award, presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives, is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the heroic efforts nurses make every day.
Mary Chatman, the chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Memorial, made the presentation in the unit where Morgan works.
Morgan received a certificate and a hand-carved sculpture by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa titled “A Healer’s Touch,” which is given as part of the award.
