Lecture to address protection from fraud

SCORE, Savannah will present a business lecture titled “Protecting Your Business from Fraud” in the SCORE conference room, 111 E. Liberty St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.

Speakers will be two Regions Bank officials, Sam Romano, a vice president for corporate security, and Tiffany Hughes, a vice president for community and business banking.

The presentation is free, but attendees are requested to bring their lunch. RSVP at 912-652-4335.

Among their key points:

• If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Avoid schemes that promise to put your mind at ease for a large fee.

• Know your customers and vendors. Due diligence is never wasted effort.

• Protect and/or destroy confidential documents and information. Security is everyone’s business.

• Don’t ignore the red flags of internal fraud. Employees living beyond their means; employees in financial difficulty; employees with excessive control issues, or who take little or no vacation.
