Savannah third-party adviser acquires Birmingham firm

Savannah-based retirement planning firm Qualified Plans LLC will acquire Benefits Administration Services LLC, a Birmingham, Ala., company, in a deal announced Tuesday.

Qualified Plans specializes in retirement planning and provides consulting and advising for 401(k)’s and 403(b)’s, as well as other profit-sharing plans. The firm also reviews and analyzes clients’ existing plans as a third-party adviser, according to its website.

Benefits Administration Services (BAS) has a similar operation.

“This acquisition certainly complements our internal growth,” said Qualified Plans managing partner John Massey. “Along with more clients comes a group of highly-skilled and well-trained employees.”

Six BAS employees will join Qualified Plans effective June 1, while the company will grow its client base to almost 1,000, Massey said.

The company has also acquired Benefits Administration Services’ Birmingham office.

“As we continue to grow, Birmingham fits our strategy,” said Massey. “We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire such a high-caliber firm there.”

He said his firm will continue to offer personalized services during its expansion.

“We hope to have continued growth,” said Massey, “but our primary goal is that our existing clients experience the personal customer service they’ve come to expect.”

Qualified Plans has offices in Savannah, Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., and Peoria, Ill., and clients in 30 states and Puerto Rico, according to its website.
