Carpet maker to creates 200 jobs in Bartow County
Surya, an India-based textile company, will create 200 new jobs and invest $30 million in its corporate office and distribution facility in Cartersville, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday.
Surya will open a 1 million-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that will handle supply chain management, sales and web and creative development services for the company.
Hiring has already begun. The project will retain 250 jobs in addition to the 200 new jobs that will be created.
Surya makes machine and hand-knotted rugs and sells soft goods for the home furnishings market. The rugs and decorative accessories are made abroad and shipped to the United States for sales and distribution operations.
“Our new facility will enable us to consolidate our product offerings under one roof, providing a highly efficient logistics base and the operational flexibility needed to optimally serve our designer and retailer customers,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya.
Ninth annual ‘Savannah Uncorked’ coming June 14

The event will feature wine and gourmet food pairings, music by Jeremy Davis & The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit Memorial University Medical Center’s Level 1 trauma center, critical care units and The Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial.
Each year, Savannah Uncorked honors a Memorial patient whose life and health were positively affected by care they received at the hospital. This year’s patient is Brandy Williams who was injured in an automobile wreck in 2011 while texting and driving.

Chamber council celebrates one-year anniversary
LaunchSAVANNAH, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce’s council for emerging professionals ages 22–40 years, will celebrate its one-year anniversary from 5:30–7:30 p.m. June 17 at the Charles H. Morris Center. Admission is $10.
“LaunchSAVANNAH has been a very successful council at the Chamber during its first year,” said Bill Hubbard, Chamber president and CEO. “Seeing these enthusiastic and highly-engaged emerging professionals attend events that further their career development has been a great experience.”
Established in June 2013, LaunchSAVANNAH hosts educational, networking and philanthropic events throughout the Savannah area.
