ZACH BYRNE

New job title: Summer intern

Company: Three Oaks Realty Company

Duties: Byrne will assist the partners and agents in their day-to-day activities.

Related Experience: Byrne worked for his family’s property management business, from maintenance of properties to collection of rents as well as administrative duties.

Education: Byrne graduated from Mount De Sales Academy. He plans to attend Georgia Southern University in the fall.

KEVIN ABELSON

New job title: Chief financial officer

Company: J.T. Turner Construction

Related Experience: Abelson spent the last eight years working as the chief accounting officer for Ashton Woods Homes, the 20th largest private homebuilder in the United States. He salso pent six years with Price Waterhouse as a CPA.

Education: He received his CPA license in Pennsylvania and graduated from Laroche College in Pittsburgh with a B.S. in accounting.

TOBY BROWNE, JR.

New job title: Vice president, commercial relationship banker

Company: Colony Bank

Duties: Browne will help expand the banking relationships of new and existing clients.

Related Experience: Browne has 11 years experience in community and commercial banking.

Education: Browne earned a bachelor of arts in finance from Georgia Southern University. He is a graduate of the Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia.

JAMES B. CLARDY

New job title: Project engineer

Company: Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung

Duties: Clardy will be responsible for supporting the permitting, design and construction administration of water and sewer projects.

Education: Clardy holds a bachelor of science civil engineering degree from The Citadel.

TIM ASHMEN

New job title: Project engineer

Company: Rives E. Worrell Company

Duties: Ashmen will perform construction related tasks for project management and field construction activities, including tasks related to materials/equipment, quality and safety.

Related Experience: Ashmen interned at several general contractor companies and was a construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity.

Education: Ashmen graduated from Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in construction management and a minor in business management.

DAVID VATER

Duties: Vater will perform construction-related tasks for project management and field construction activities, including tasks related to materials/equipment, quality and safety.

Related Experience: Vater has worked as a mechanical services estimating assistant and was an intern with AMEC Power & Process in Woodstock.

Education: David earned his bachelor of science degree in construction management at Georgia Southern University.

Education: He is in the School of Building Science at Auburn University and will graduate in the fall of 2014.

Duties: Helms will assist in project management and field operations.

Related Experience: Helms has worked for a custom home builder and remodeling company. He also was a volunteer construction worker doing plumbing and remodeling for Orphanage Emmanuel in the summer of 2013.

Education: He will graduate from Auburn University in December 2015 with a degree in building science with a minor in Business.

COREY NEAL

New job title: Intern

Company: Rives E. Worrell Company

Duties: Neal will assist in project management and field operations.

Related Experience: Neal has worked as a construction laborer and has completed a previous internship with Rives E. Worrell.

Education: Neal is attending Georgia Southern University and is working toward a degree in construction management.

DERRICK MCKINNEY

New job title: Intern

Company: Rives E. Worrell Company

Duties: McKinney will assist in project management and field operations.

Related Experience: McKinney was a Junior Achievement mentor at Hodge Elementary School. He has served as a volunteer on several local charitable events.

Education: He is a 2014 graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School.

Armstrong professors selected as Governor’s Teaching Fellows

Two faculty members at Armstrong Atlantic State University — Becky da Cruz, an associate professor of criminal justice, social and political science, and Mirari Elcoro, an assistant professor of psychology – were recently selected as governor’s teaching fellows for the 2014 Summer Symposium Program.

White elected to Georgia Trust Board of Trustees

Lisa L. White has been elected to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation Board of Trustees. White is a graduate from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. In addition to The Georgia Trust, she is currently on the board of directors for the Georgia Humanities Council, the Ossabaw Island Foundation, the University of Georgia Libraries, the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails, and the city of Savannah Cultural Affairs Commission.

World Trade Center Savannah names new board members

World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav) announced that James Anderson, director of International Education and Assistant to the Vice President at Armstrong Atlantic State University and Screven County Development Authority’s representative, Dwight Evans, founding partner in the Pendleton Consulting Group, as new members of the WTCSav Board of Directors. The new members began their two-year term in January.
