Children’s Miracle Network receives Kroger customer donations

Customers at Kroger stores in the the company’s Atlanta Division, which includes 12 stores in the Savannah area, donated more than $232,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network from May 18-31.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, which includes The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center, throughout the Atlanta Division.

“Kroger customers consistently show their care for our communities by constantly going above and beyond with their charitable donations,” said Kroger spokesman Glynn Jenkins.

The nonprofit Children’s Miracle Network raises money for more than 170 hospitals.

Food bank receives donation from Hormel Foods

Diamond Crystal Brands, the local subsidiary owned by Hormel Foods Corp., has donated $10,000 to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.

The donation is part of the Hormel Foods Plant Community Donations Program, which gives employees a chance to help local hunger relief organizations.

“We are thrilled to support this organization and contribute to its efforts to feed the families in need in our area,” said spokesman Kevin J. McGowan.

This marks the fourth straight year Hormel Foods has given its plants money to share with local nonprofits.

HeritageBank of the South launches mobile check deposit

Albany — HeritageBank of the South has announcedthe launch of HBOS Mobile Check Deposit, a new service that allows eligible customers to deposit checks directly into their account using a smartphone or iPad. “The way customers interact with us is constantly evolving, and the new HBOS Mobile Check Deposit service is another avenue by which we can better meet the changing needs of our clients,” said James Salter, the bank’s electronic banking manager.

Compatible devices include Android 2.3 or higher and iPhone and iPad iOS 6.1 or higher, with camera access.

Walgreen to hold June 25 ribbon cutting

The Savannah Development & Renewal Authority will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Walgreens store at 2109 E. Victory St. on Wednesday, June 25, at 1 p.m.

The Way to Well tour bus that travels the United States offering free health assessments to individuals throughout the community will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the free health testing will include blood pressure checks, blood glucose, BMI, and cholesterol tests.

Representatives from the city of Savannah, Savannah Development and Renewal Authority, Sanitation Outreach and Education Coordinator, and the Savannah Downtown Business Association will be on hand along with Walgreens officials.
