Blairsville-based United Community Bank announced the acquisition of Business Carolina Inc. on Friday.

Business Carolina is a Columbia, S.C.-based commercial lender, specializing in small business and U.S. Department of Agriculture loans, which help with a variety of financing services including startup funding and land acquisition.

“We are pleased to welcome the customers and employees of BCI to United Community Bank,” said United President and COO Lynn Harton, in a statement.

United is a full-service bank specializing in personal consumer and commercial services such as mortgage, advisory and treasury management products and has $7.4 billion in assets, according to the bank’s press release.

The acquisition of BCI Lending includes $25 million in loans and $6 million in other assets, said the press release, while BCI will continue to operate as a division of United Community Bank.

“We are fortunate to have found an organization that shares our commitment to building strong relationships with our customers,” said Mike Sandusky, president and CEO of BCI Lending, in a statement.

United Community Bank operates 102 offices in four Southeastern states, with 81 offices in Georgia, including three branches in the Savannah area on Bull Street, East Victory Drive and White Bluff Road.
