Foreclose, delinquency rates down in Savannah

Foreclosure rates in Savannah decreased for April over the same period last year, according to newly released data from CoreLogic, a real estate information reporting firm.

CoreLogic data indicates the rate of Savannah area foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans was 0.76 percent for April 2014, a decrease of 0.49 percentage points compared to April 2013 when the rate was 1.25 percent.

Foreclosure activity in Savannah was lower than the national foreclosure rate, which was 1.77 percent for April 2014.

Also in Savannah, the mortgage delinquency rate decreased. According to CoreLogic data for April 2014, 4.30 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more delinquent compared to 5.09 percent for the same period last year, representing a decrease of 0.79 percentage points.

 

More than 200 butterflies arrive at Savannah Mall

The Savannah Mall will host a live butterfly exhibit from Friday through July 27. The exhibit features more than 200 live butterflies from a variety of species tucked away inside a conservatory conducive to butterfly flight.

Guided tours will take place every 10-30 minutes inside the conservatory to explain the stages of life between the caterpillar and butterfly. Once the guided tour is over, participants will be able to explore the conservatory on their own.

Admission is $3 and children 8 and under will be free with the purchase of an adult ticket.

The exhibit will be located in the center court from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, go to http://www.adoptabutterfly.com or www.savannahmall.com

 

Downtown business luncheon focuses on crime prevention

The Savannah Downtown Business Association will feature David Kennedy, director of the Center for Crime Prevention and Control at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, as the speaker at the group’s July Luncheon.

The luncheon will take place Tuesday at The Charles H. Morris Center, 10 E. Broad St. Networking will begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch from the Magnolia Grill at noon.

The price is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Reservations are required by 2 p.m. Monday for discounted rates. All reservations must be made via www.SavannahDBA.com.

David Kennedy directed the Boston Gun Project, whose “Operation Ceasefire” intervention was responsible for a more than 60 per cent reduction in youth homicide victims. His work has won two Ford Foundation Innovations in Government awards, two Webber Seavey Awards from the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Herman Goldstein International Award for Problem-Oriented Policing.
