A former vice president of First Chatham Bank was arrested Monday and charged with felony theft stemming from his time at the bank.
Oren Kenneth Gaylord, 42, was arrested by Savannah-Chatham police on a felony charge of theft by taking and booked in the Chatham County jail.
According to a metro police incident report dated June 26, First Chatham President Brian Foster told a detective that an internal audit revealed Gaylord, a former officer and vice president, had embezzled cash funds from the savings accounts of two customers. One customer had $33,100 taken and the other $7,000, but neither was aware at the time that money was missing, according to the report.
Hunt told police Gaylord denied taking money from the clients’ accounts, but because the audit showed otherwise, Gaylord was asked to resign, which he did, according to the report.
Police are still investigating the matter.
No further information regarding the investigation was available.
