Dentist donates mouth protection gear to football team

Rincon dentist Angela Canfield, who’s opening a second office in Sandfly, is donating $9,000 worth of custom-made maroon and white mouth guards to the Benedictine Military School football team.

Canfield is donating 110 custom-fit mouth guards to the Benedictine team free of charge. She and four staff members took impressions of the football players’ teeth on Saturday.

The American Dental Association estimates mouth guards prevent about 200,000 injuries a year in high school and college football teams.

Canfield will picked an impact sports team each year to receive mouth guards. Applications for 2015 should be submitted to her office before June 1, 2015.
