ITS wins two awards
Industrial Technical Services, Inc. recently won the Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia.
ITS was honored for the Alumina Manufacturing Upgrade Project for Axens North America at the BASF Corporation location in Savannah, and it also won the Gold Safety Training and Evaluation Process Award and Georgia Safety Award of Excellence.
“We’re extremely honored to receive this award from the ABC,” said Spencer Tyson, chief executive officer of ITS. “Our team worked over 70,000 hours on this project, and receiving this award from an industry advocate of skilled tradesmen and women like the ABC is very humbling. The success of the Axens expansion project is a testament to our employees’ dedication and craftsmanship.”
Awards of Excellence were given to the projects receiving the highest ratings in several specialty contracting and general contracting areas, including electrical, mechanical, renovation, commercial and industrial.
“The Excellence in Construction program showcases the most outstanding projects built by ABC of Georgia members,” said Bill Anderson, ABC of Georgia President. “It demonstrates how cooperation among the entire construction team results in the most successful projects.”
ABC’s STEP awards recognize member companies who employ effective safety practices on their jobsites.
Savannah Human Resource Management chapter hosts retreat
The Savannah Area Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management hosted its annual HR Retreat for 125 attendees from Georgia, Florida and South Carolina on July 24 at the new Embassy Suites.
The retreat consisted nine educational sessions by regional and national presenters from Hunter MacLean Attorneys, LPL Financial, Social Security 567, Savannah Business Group and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
State Sen. Buddy Carter opened the event with a breakfast keynote on trends for 2015 for employment and education in conjunction with the State’s political framework. The closing keynote speaker was New York Times bestselling author Dr. Howard Wasdin, former sniper for Seal Team Six, who gave a motivational presentation on effective leadership.
Cancer center selected for project
The Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center has been selected by the Association of Community Cancer Centers to serve as a Community Resource Center in its Improving Quality Care in Gastric Cancer project.
Only three other U.S. cancer centers have been selected to serve in this capacity for the project, which is focused on improving understanding of and treatment for patients with gastric cancer, the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
ACCC’s Community Resource Centers are ACCC-member cancer programs with experience and expertise in treating certain less common cancers, such as gastric cancer.
ACCC’s Community Resource Centers offer access to expertise and opportunities for increased collaboration.
“While treating patients with gastric cancer, community-based cancer centers around the country will have the full resources of ACCC, along with the experience of Savannah’s ACI at their fingertips,” said Jennifer Currin-McCulloch, manager of oncology services at ACI. “We are proud to participate in this program and share our knowledge to help treat patients faced with gastric cancer.”
