Savannah Philharmonic contributes to local economy

According to the Arts and Economic Prosperity Calculator, the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and its audience spent nearly $2 million locally in fiscal year 2014. The orchestra just marked the end of its fifth season in Savannah.

“With many orchestras across the country facing financial challenges, I’m proud that the Savannah Philharmonic has experienced consistent growth over the last five years, posting annual surpluses,” said executive director David Pratt.

The orchestra released financial results indicating it has built a subscription base of more than 400 subscribers since 2010, doubled its earned income and tripled its contributed income.

Miracle treat day at Dairy Queen

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Dairy Queen’s partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which includes the Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

On Thursday, all 26 Dairy Queen locations in the 22-county Savannah region will donate the proceeds of $1 or more from every Blizzard treat sold during the date to the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

When a donation is made to the network, it stays in the community where it was donated. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is a nonprofit organization serving 170 children’s hospitals across North America.

To date, $100 million has been raised in support of network hospitals.
