BELKIS TORRES-CAPELES

Duties:

Torres-Capeles will be responsible for the overall management, operation, strategic planning and leadership for the day-to-day functions and services of the division. In addition, she will oversee the operations of all activities, programming and conference management facilities, to include the Nessmith-Lane conference center and the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.

Related experience: Torres-Capeles served as the vice president of programs for the Boulder Institute of Microfinance. Previously she worked at Valmark Securities Inc., as the director of conference planning.

Education: Torres-Capeles received her bachelor of arts in communications, her master of arts in liberal studies, counseling, and conflict management and her Ph.D., in cultural foundations of education, leadership, and administration from Kent State University.

He is responsible for training managers, supervisors and employees in identifying, evaluating and controlling workplace hazards. His duties also include investigating mishaps that may occur on or off duty and advising commanders on safety related matters to prevent future mishaps.

DAVID CLARK

McNeely appointed to services committee

Pooler Finance Director Michelle McNeely has been appointed to serve on a Member Services Advisory Council for the Georgia Municipal Association. The role of the council is to provide ongoing feedback to the association staff on services needed to help cities operate more effectively and efficiently.

Doctor to receive leadership award

Steve Greenberg, president of the Savannah Jewish Federation, announced that Dr. Paul Kulbersh will receive the Jack Malitz Levy Leadership Award, the highest award given by the Federation. Kulbersh will receive the award at a dinner in his honor on Aug. 24 at the Jewish Educational Alliance in Savannah.

Deal appoints professor to nursing board

Dellarie Shilling, assistant professor in the Georgia Southern University School of Nursing, has been appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Georgia Board of Nursing. Shilling teaches at all levels in the School of Nursing.

Savannah Children’s Choir announces officers

The Savannah Children’s Choir’s board of trustees has elected Adam Kirk as president and Lukejohn Dickson as vice-president. Beth Robinson and Jason Gallegos will continue in their roles as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

The organization also appointed Levelyn Bridges to the position of alumni coordinator.

Rotary/Savannah East inducts first African-American female president

The Rotary Club of Savannah East recently inducted the first African-American female club president in Savannah Rotary history.

Savannah native Gena P. Taylor is the director of the Greenbrier Children’s Center.

Nursing professor named 2014 NIMHD Scholar

Georgia Southern University nursing professor Kathryn Anderson has been selected to participate in the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities course, The two-week intensive course will provide introduction in the principles and practice of health disparities research.

Realtor takes role with professional group

Charles Gilyard, a 32-year real estate professional, has been elected as regional vice president for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). In his new position, Gilyard will serve the states of Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Gilyard is a licensed realtor with Coldwell Banker Platinum Partners Realty.

New parole officer in Savannah

Seven new parole officers will be working and supervising parolees in Georgia following their graduation on Aug. 1. Parole Officer Whittney Williamson of Lyons, Ga., will be working in the Savannah Parole District.
