BOBBY HICKS

New job title: Managing director

Company:

US Energy Sciences, Inc.

Duties:

Hicks will direct all operational and business functions of the Vidalia lighting manufacturer from sales and marketing to manufacturing, product development, human resources, accounting and innovation.

Related experience:

Hicks joined USES in 2002 and served as plant manager before being promoted to director of operations in 2006.

Education:

He graduated from Jacksonville State University in Alabama, with a bachelor of science degree.

CHENG LIN

New job title: Project geotechnical engineer

Company:

Terracon Consultants, Inc.

Duties:

He coordinates field drilling work, oversees construction and is responsible for preparing proposals, analyzing technical data and writing geotechnical reports.

Related experience: Lin has extensive experience in geotechnics and computer modeling.

Education:

He earned his Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Kansas, master of science in engineering and bachelor of science in engineering from Hohai University and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

CHRIS W. BARR

Duties:

His responsibilities include promotion of services to clients, direct project management, report preparation, proposal preparation, staff development, safety training and compliance and personnel selection.

Related experience: Barr was hired in July 2012 as a staff geotechnical engineer. He oversees several design professionals.

He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in Georgia and South Carolina.

MELANIE ORSINI

Related Experience: Orsini is an accountant with Skinner, Barndollar, & Lane, PC, where she prepares tax returns and financial statements for small to medium businesses and private foundations in Savannah and the surrounding communities.

Education: She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2006.

DREW WADE

Duties:

Wade will be responsible for managing and controlling the affairs of the affiliate.

Related Experience: Wade is a radiologist at SouthCoast Health in Savannah. As a diagnostic radiologist, he routinely reads mammograms and is often the first to discuss a breast cancer diagnosis with a patient.

Education: He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Georgia and M.D. from Emory.

HEATHER LUNDY

Related Experience: Lundy is an attorney in the specialty litigation practice group at Hunter Maclean, focusing her practice on medical malpractice defense.

Education: She received a bachelor of arts in journalism from the University of Georgia in 2006, and a juris doctor from Georgia State University College of Law in 2010.

LEESA BOHLER

Safrin is responsible for developing course objectives, preparing lesson plans for instruction and maintaining program certification requirements.

Related Experience: His background includes more than 18 years of experience in public service ranging from law enforcement to training and education.

James Heater named Georgia-PTA’s outstanding principal

Georgia Parent Teacher Association named James Heater as the 2014 Outstanding Principal of the Year (for middle schools) at its awards banquet on July 12 during the annual state convention. Heater is the principal at Esther F. Garrison K-8 School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Attorney recognized by Atlanta Magazine

Attorney Howard E. Spiva was recognized as a Top Georgia Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine.

Dentist receives AGD Mastership award

The Academy of General Dentistry announced C. Thomas Graham of Savannah received the association’s Mastership Award during the AGD 2014 Annual Meeting and Exhibitions June 26-29 in Detroit. The award is the AGD’s highest honor and Graham completed more than 1,000 hours of dental education to receive it.

Ormsbee named Georgia Nurse of the Year

Cari Ormsbee, a clinical lead case manager at T.H.A. Group Island Health Care, will represent Georgia at the annual National Association for Home Care and Hospice as the Georgia Nurse of the Year.

As the representative for Georgia, she has been invited to NAHC’s Annual Meeting and Exposition in Phoenix on Oct. 19-22.

Claborn invited to serve on technology board

Buddy Claborn, CEO of Savannah-based medical billing software company Healthpac, has been invited to serve on the board of directors for the newly launched Healthcare Administrative Technology Association and serve on an advisory board for the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission. That commission is the organization responsible for developing an accreditation process for medical billing software companies to protect against fraud and increase billing efficiencies in health care, and Healthpac has been asked to be a beta tester for the certification process.

impson named Communicator of the Year

Stan Simpson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, was awarded the Ronald J. Ruffenach Communicator of the Year Award. Simpson is a hydrologist who manages the flow of water from three Corps-operated hydroelectric dams and reservoirs on the Savannah River. He was recognized for his significant contributions to the Savannah District’s public affairs mission.
