STATESBORO — As of 4 PM, Georgia Power has ceased this process and customers should be returned to usual service.
This morning, Georgia Power experienced a critical equipment failure which resulted in a fire at the Statesboro primary substation.
In order to repair the equipment and restore complete service to all customers as quickly as possible, Georgia Power temporarily interrupted service to some Statesboro area customers today.
As of 4 PM, Georgia Power has ceased this process and customers should be returned to usual service.
The temporary, planned outages were kept as brief as possible (30-45 minutes) and rotated throughout the area. The company is working to ensure continuous service to critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, and minimize interruptions to area schools.
With the high summer temperatures expected today, Georgia Power also asks that customers reduce their usage as much as possible until this issue is repaired by curtailing non-essential power usage such as clothes dryers and televisions. This reduced usage will help ensure supply for customers.
Customers should visit Georgia Power’s online outage map at outagemap.georgiapower.com for updates or contact Georgia Power customer service at 888-660-5890.
