Savannah tourism boosters win state award
The Tourism Leadership Council, together with Visit Savannah, won the Bill Hardman Sr. Tourism Champion Award in the Partnership category Friday at the Governor’s Tourism Conference in Augusta.
The award was given for their combined service to visitors traveling to Savannah and Chatham County.
“These two organizations speak with a single voice, and because of that Savannah has seen record-breaking levels in tourism,” said deputy tourism commissioner Kevin Langston.
Tourism council president Michael Owens said it was an honor to be recognized for the partnership.
“We all work together for the greater good, and because of that we’ve seen the successes of an industry that represents $2.3 billion in economic impact,” Owens aid.
Friday’s event attracted more than 500 tourism industry professionals from Georgia’s convention and visitor bureaus, attractions, hotels and others.
