Macy’s awards $3,000 grant to Park Place Outreach
Park Place Outreach–Youth Emergency Shelter has received a $3,000 grant from Macy’s for its emergency youth shelter program.
The facility at 514 E. Henry St., offers teenagers, ages 11 to 17, a safe place to go 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“We are grateful to receive this incredible gift from Macy’s,” said executive director Linda K. Hilts. “The funds will enable the shelter to provide more than 364 nights of care for an individual needing food, clothing and other services such as counseling.”
Nationwide, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s, Inc. contributed more than $26 million to nearly 6,000 nonprofit organizations in 2013.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Macy’s as a corporate partner,” said Hilts. “As a nonprofit, we are always in need of funding and this gift will make a positive difference in many young lives.”
Business, employer summit scheduled here
The Georgia Department of Labor and several employer committees in Coastal Georgia will co-sponsor a business and employer summit Tuesday, Sept. 23, in Savannah.
The summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Savannah campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology, 210 Technology Circle.
The summit will help business owners and managers better understand and conquer compliance challenges in the workplace. . Topics will include the emerging workforce, unemployment insurance regulations, and healthcare compliance.
Employment and Training Consultant Cherry Rizer will discuss best practices in handling unemployment claims and appeals. Molly Barkman, of the Northwest Benefit Corporation, will discuss the impact of the Affordable Healthcare Act on employers in 2014 and beyond.
