Vaden dealerships win top award
Vaden Automotive Group has been named the “2014 F&I Dealer of the Year” by “F&I and Showroom Magazine” for achievements in F&I (finance and insurance) profitability and commitment to regulatory compliance.
The announcement was made Tuesday at the “2014 Industry Summit” in Las Vegas.
“We are committed to providing the best financing options available for each and every customer. It is exciting to be recognized at a national level for doing things right,” said Jane Vaden Thacher, president of Vaden Automotive Group.
Vaden Automotive Group was founded in 1968 by Dan Vaden.
The top five national finalists included dealerships from Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Colorado as well as Vaden.

Humane Society book sale set for Sept. 20
The Humane Society Thrift Shop will hold its quarterly book sale from 9 a.m, to noon Sept. 20 in the shelter parking lot at 7215 Sallie Mood Drive.
All “parking lot” books, videos and CDs will be just 25¢.
Plus, “The Pick of the Litter” thrift shop will offer store-wide sales including 50 percent off all items in the furniture department. All proceeds from book and thrift shop sales benefit the Humane Society for Greater Savannah and the animals in its care.
Nursing school receives $2.2 million in grants
STATESBORO — This summer, Georgia Southern University’s School of Nursing received more than $2.2 million in grant funding, which will serve three purposes: help to establish a center for nursing scholarship and research, introduce a new graduate level chronic illness certificate program and provide scholarships to students seeking a family nurse practitioner degree.
The school of nursing received one grant from the University System of Georgia and two from the Health Resources Services Administration.
Lean inbound logistics seminar offered
Georgia Tech Professional Education will offer a lean inbound logistics course Sept. 29-30, which will focus on why and how to apply lean principles to all aspects of your current inbound logistics network, including transportation, materials and supplies.
The course is designed to teach participants to balance inventory costs with transportation costs, improve leadership’s understanding of the supply chain and design a better network based on lean principles. The course, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, 2 W. Bay St., is an elective for the supply chain management certificate.
