SCAD to host annual awards ceremony
The Savannah College of Art and Design will honor student achievement in the advertising arts and related disciplines at its seventh annual SCADDY Awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Arnold Hall, 1810 Bull St.
Award-winning student videos, including animation, television commercials and on-screen graphics, will be shown during the ceremony. Admission is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
SCAD students from advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography, animation, motion media, visual effects, writing and film and television entered more than 2,000 pieces into this year’s competition.
Winners of Gold SCADDY Awards will be forwarded to the National ADDY Award Competition.
Draftfcb, a global advertising agency network, will present a $5,000 prize to the student whose project is named best in show. Razorfish, an interactive agency, will present a $3,000 prize to the winning entry in the online category.
Construction firm recognized for safety record
Liberty Mutual Insurance recently recognized Balfour Beatty Construction with a Gold Safety Award, which goes to less than one percent of the company’s clients, for an outstanding safety record during its work at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
From Jan. 27, 2011, to Nov. 1, Balfour Beatty recorded 348,913 man hours with no injuries. Its military housing division has received four gold safety awards overall.
The nine-year development and renovation projects at Fort Stewart and Hunter included 1,999 single and multi-family homes plus amenities such as sports courts, playgrounds, community centers, swimming pools and walking trails.
Since 2002, Balfour Beatty has built nearly 13,000 new military housing units on 35 bases.
Armstrong schedules health careers camp
Armstrong Atlantic State University’s College of Health Professions will host a health careers summer camp July 21-27 for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in a career in health care.
Students will stay in an Armstrong residence hall, work with health professions faculty, experience hands-on lab procedures and work with patient simulations and team projects.
The camp will cover career tracks of respiratory therapy, medical laboratory science, health science, nursing, radiologic science, communication sciences and disorders and physical therapy.
Students need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and PSAT/SAT score minimums of 530 in critical reading and 430 in math, with an overall score of 1,000. The required ACT scores are 24 in English and 18 in math with a composite score of 21. The cost is $150; application deadline is March 15.
