Hancock Askew among ‘best to work for’

For the sixth year in a row, Hancock Askew & Co. LLP has been named as one of Accounting Today’s Best Accounting Firms to Work for.

The magazine has partnered with Best Companies Group to identify companies that have excelled in creating quality workplaces for employees. The list is made up of 100 companies.

Companies from across the United States entered the two-part survey process. The first part evaluates each company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part includes an employee survey.

Construction company wins award for cathedral project

JE Dunn/Rives E. Worrell Co. has won a first place Build Georgia Award for its renovation of the spires at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

The recognition, presented by the Associated General Contractors of Georgia Inc., was awarded in the organization’s general contractor category.

“This project is significant to me both professionally and personally, and I am pleased we were recognized by AGC for our work on this project,” said Walter Murphy, vice president of Rives E. Worrell.

Key judging criteria include exceptional project safety performance, meeting the challenge of a difficult job, innovation in construction techniques and materials, excellence in project management and scheduling and excellence in client service.


Radiothon raises $60K for Children’s Hospital

The second Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Radiothon held in August raised $60,000 for The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center. The radiothon was hosted by 98.7 The River and WTKS.

The River’s morning hosts, syndicated radio personalities Murphy, Sam and Jodi, were joined by Mark Robertson, who hosts the afternoon broadcast, and Bill Edwards at WTKS.

During the broadcast, families whose lives have been touched by The Children’s Hospital at Memorial told their stories of hope and healing. Donations were made by individuals and companies calling in during the broadcast.


SCAD finalizes Atlanta, Savannah residence halls

Savannah College of Art and Design has finalized the purchase of four residence halls in Atlanta and Savannah. Three of the residence halls are in Savannah: Barnard Village, Boundary Village and Turner Annex. The fourth, Spring House, is in Atlanta.

The four coeducational residence halls house more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Barnard and Boundary Houses provide apartment style living, including private bedrooms with twin beds for four students, a full kitchen and two bathrooms.

Turner Annex and Spring House are double- and triple-occupancy single rooms with private bathrooms.
