Logistics firm to recruit warehouse workers

The Georgia Department of Labor will help Pinnacle Workforce Logistics recruit about 30 workers for a warehouse in Pooler next week.

The recruitment will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the labor department office in the Effingham County Annex, 768 Highway 119 South, in Springfield.

The company is recruiting personnel to load and unload trucks, fill orders and operate forklifts. Applicants must be able to lift 50-75 pounds continuously.

Due to U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Job seekers will complete a company application at the recruitment, and interviews may take place that day.

Ninth annual Buddy Walk names Jamie Deen as grand marshal

American cook, restaurateur and TV personality Jamie Deen will serve as the grand marshal of the 2014 Buddy Walk on Saturday, Oct. 4. in Forsyth Park.

The event will raise awareness and funds for local programs, including Camp Buddy and Night of Champions.

The Buddy Walk Festival encourages participants of all ages and abilities. Walkers, strollers, piggy-backers and pets are welcome.

The walk begins at 10 a.m. with a Family Fun Festival being held immediately thereafter. Activities including face painting, bouncy houses and other games as well as music and refreshments will last until 2 p.m.

Online registration is available at www.ldssga.org until Wednesday, Oct 1, at midnight. Participants can also sign up starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Registration is $12 per person or $40 for a family of four, which includes a T-Shirt, lunch and admission to the festival.

Transportation, distribution course offered

Georgia Tech Professional Education will offer a transportation and distribution planning and management course Oct. 1-3 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, 2 W. Bay St.

The three-day seminar is designed to help participants develop principles and best practices to address major domestic and international transportation issues and to design supply chains that minimize transportation and distribution costs. The course is an elective for the supply chain management Certificate.

The individual course price is $1,000. Register by calling 404-385-8663.

Register for both the lean inbound logistics and transportation and distribution courses and attend a tour of Target’s distribution center and the port of Savannah.
