Neovia Logistics, a global, industrial logistics company based in Irving, Texas, cut the ribbon in Savannah Monday for a new container cross dock operation for Caterpillar Inc. as part of Caterpillar’s global hub-and-spoke network.
The 170,000-square-foot operation, located off Dean Forest Road, is less than two miles from the Port of Savannah and will handle containerized parts coming in for the new Caterpillar manufacturing plant just outside of Athens, as well as exporting Caterpillar parts to other countries.
“Savannah is known worldwide as a premier logistics and distribution hub,” said Trip Tollison, president of the Savannah Economic Development Authority. “Companies like Neovia Logistics further add to the reputation of the Port of Savannah as a leading port to import and export goods.”
For the new Savannah operation, Neovia has partnered with Coastal Logistics Group, a Savannah-based logistics provider specializing in manufacturing support services. CLG will run the facility for Neovia.
“We’re excited to be part of this global gateway for Caterpillar,” said Chad Barrow, CEO of Coastal Logistics Group. “To work with two major global leaders is truly an honor.”
Begun in 2004 by Barrow and his father, Richard, CLG is one of the fastest-growing logistics providers in the country, managing nearly a million square feet of space and five facilities — two in Savannah and one each in Memphis, Norfolk and Charleston, S.C.
Neovia and Georgia Ports are a perfect fit, said GPA executive director Curtis Foltz.
“Shipping to more than 190 countries, Neovia Logistics delivers a nimble, cutting-edge approach to supply chain management,” Foltz said. “Their state-of-the-art solutions mesh perfectly with the Port of Savannah’s speed, efficiency and its global reach delivered through 38 weekly container ship services.”
Neovia’s container cross dock solution is one of several new, innovative service capabilities that will be offered to clients worldwide, according to a company press release.
With global operations across six continents, 25 countries and 96 facilities, Neovia partners with companies in construction, mining, automotive, energy and other industries.
