Savannah Junior League announces thrift sale
The Junior League of Savannah will host its 67th annual thrift sale on Oct. 4 at the Savannah Civic Center.
Merchandise includes appliances, children’s clothes and toys, holiday decorations, books, house wares, linens, sporting goods, furniture and other itmes. New this year, the sale also will feature adult women’s formal wear and business attire.
Parking is free. Doors will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will re-open as a grab bag event from 2:30–3 p.m.

The annual preview party and auction will be held Oct. 3, with early bird shopping at 5:30 p.m. on the thrift sale floor, followed by a cocktail party and silent auction at 6 p.m.

Georgia Tech-Savannah to launch speaker series
A lecture on mobile devices and applications will kick off a Georgia Tech-Savannah speaker series titled “Keeping Up With the Mobile Device and Application Landscape” at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at 210 Technology Circle.
Russell Clark, a senior research scientist in Georgia Tech’s School of Computer Science, will be the speaker.
His teaching and research is primarily focused in the areas of networking, network management and mobile applications and services.

Hilton Head wins annual award
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce has been selected as National Chamber of the Year by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. The award was announced earlier this month.
The chamber has won the award three times and was a finalist in 2010 and 2012.
The ACCE annually recognizes chambers of commerce for their work in leading business and strengthening communities with the chamber of the year award.
Rotary golf tournament supports Early Childhood Foundation
Savannah South Rotary and Siemens will hold their annual golf tournament at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 at The Club at Savannah Harbor to support the Savannah Early Childhood Foundation.
The foundation works to stitch together community resources to ensure that all Savannah children are ready for school.
East Broad K-8, Shuman Elementary and Brock Elementary are the host sites for Saturday morning sessions this school year.
Cost to play is $500 for a team of four or $125 a person. Ticket prices include green and cart fees, lunch and a Lowcountry boil dinner. For more information, go to savannahsouthrotary.com.
