Critz Tybee Runfest distributes $77,000 to Savannah area nonprofits

The Critz Tybee Run Fest, held in late January and early February on Tybee Island, announced donations to a variety of area nonprofits Wednesday during its annual “Giving Back” event.

Grants totalling $77,000 were awarded to 13 nonprofits during a lunch ceremony at the new Critz Mercedes Benz showroom at Stephenson and Abercorn. Newcomers to this year’s list of recipients were 100 Black Men, Performance Initiatives and Girls on the Run.

“Since we started seven years ago, we have given more than $300,000 back to the community, said Dale Critz Jr., founder and primary sponsor of the event. “A huge thank you goes to everybody who makes funding possible through sponsorship support, advertising placement and race registration in this one-of-a-kind event.”

Grant recipients included:

• 100 Black Men of Savannah, $5,000.

• Armstrong State University, $7,500.

• Horizons Savannah, $2,000.

• Lady Bamford Early Learning Center, $15,000.

• JCB Performance Initiatives, $5,000.

• Savannah College of Art and Design, $5,500.

• Savannah State University, $7,000.

• The Froebel Circle’s Fresh Air Home at Tybee Island, $2,000.

• The Humane Society for Greater Savannah Youth Education Program, $4,000.

• The Tybee Maritime Academy, $7,500.

• Tybee Island YMCA, $10,000.

• Tybee Post Theater, $4,500.

• Girls on the Run, $2,000.
