Foreclosures decline in metro Savannah
Foreclosure rates in Savannah decreased for the month of July over the same period last year, according to newly released data from CoreLogic, a real estate information firm.
The CoreLogic data indicates the rate of Savannah area foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans was 0.75 percent for the month of July 2014, a decrease of 0.44 percentage points compared to July of 2013 when the rate was 1.19 percent.
Foreclosure activity in Savannah was lower than the national foreclosure rate, which was 1.66 percent for July 2014.
Also in Savannah, the mortgage delinquency rate decreased. According to CoreLogic data for July, 4.11 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more delinquent compared to 4.97 percent for the same period last year, representing a decrease of 0.86 percentage points.
Savannah Tech event raises $22,000 for scholarships
The opening event for the Savannah Food & Wine Festival has raised $22,000 for the Patrick Ansley Williams Scholarship Fund that awards scholarships for the Savannah Technical College Culinary Arts Program.
Five scholarships are given each year to help the recipients pay for tuition, fees, books and other supplies.
On Sept. 19, Savannah Tech culinary arts instructor Chef Jean Vendeville and his students partnered with the Savannah Food & Wine Festival to host Bistro Savoir Interactif.
Attendees traveled between five stations, where tables were set featuring appetizers, seafood dishes, the main course, dessert, cheese and elaborate blown sugar showpieces.
Donation will help protect Savannah’s waterfront
Elba Liquefaction Co. LLC has donated $125,000 to help Savannah Fire and Emergency Services buy its first all-hazards response boat. The donation will be combined with local funding and a $1.2 million homeland security grant to buy the FireStorm 50 vessel.
The FireStorm 50 functions as a floating mobile command center, capable of reaching speeds of 37 knots and performing emergency stops and direction changes. The boat includes systems to provide crew protection, decontamination, agent detection and command functions.
Armstrong to host health and wellness fair
Armstrong State University will host a health and wellness fair today in the Student Union Ballroom, 11935 Abercorn St.
Sponsored by the university’s Recreation and Wellness Department, the fair will host more than 40 vendors offering a variety of services, information sessions and giveaways. Highlights include an on-site body fat analysis, stop-smoking information from Memorial Hospital, healthy recipes from Whole Foods, skin care information from Mary Kay and fitness screenings from West Rehab.
The event is free and open to the public from 10.m. to 2 p.m.
