TIME and Ally FINANCIAL honor Savannah auto dealer

NEW YORK — Walter Lewis, president of J.C. Lewis Ford LLC in Savannah, has been nominated for the 2015 TIME Dealer of the Year award.

Lewis is one of 55 dealer nominees from across the country who will be honored at the 98th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Convention & Exposition in San Francisco on Jan. 23.

“The dealers nominated for this award are dedicated business owners, auto lovers and, most importantly, champions for their local communities, with a willingness to give back on a grand scale,” said Tim Russi, president of Auto Finance for Ally Financial.

Ally will contribute $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)3 charity of choice.

Lewis was nominated for the award by William F. Morie, president of the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association. He and his wife, Linda, have three children and one grandchild.

Savannah to host 2014 national preservation conference

Savannah will serve as the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual conference, PastForward, Nov. 11-14 at Savannah International Trade & Convention Center and the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort.

More than 2,000 participants are expected to attend, including historic preservationists, architects, city planners, developers and public and private-sector professionals.

“Savannah and Chatham County are really gearing up to have the National Trust back in our community,” said Joseph Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah.

Conference programming includes educational learning labs, day-long preservation leadership training intensives and field studies that take attendees into the community.

New this year are the TrustLive presentations that will bring new voices and ideas together to focus on the intersections between historic preservation and larger issues including climate change, entrepreneurship, evolving technology and engaging new audiences. The conference is presented by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in collaboration with The Savannah College of Art and Design and in partnership with the Historic Savannah Foundation.
