Junior League accepting applications for projects

The Junior League of Savannah is accepting applications for community projects and community assistance funds that align with the group’s focus on women and children.

Community partners are organizations that partner with the Junior League and receive funding and volunteers for community projects.

Community assistance Funds are awarded once a year in the spring. Partnerships and funding are available to local 501(c)3 organizations that are within the program focus area of women and children’s advocacy.

To apply, visit the Junior League of Savannah’s website at www.jrleaguesav.org or call the league’s headquarters at 912-790-1002. The application deadline is Nov. 15.

 

Business group luncheon features Charles Morris

The Savannah Downtown Business Association will feature businessman and philanthropist Charles Morris as the speaker for its monthly luncheon on Nov. 12.

Morris, who owns the Trustee’s Garden, is expected to offer “an inside view of his vision and dream” during the luncheon at the Charles H. Morris Center, 10 East Broad St.

Networking will begin at 11 a.m. with the “member spotlight” followed by lunch from Magnolia Grill at noon. The price is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.

Grand opening scheduled for Sandfly dental office

Dentist Angela Canfield will hold the grand opening ceremony of Sandfly Family Dental on Friday, Nov. 14, at Norwood Market.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 10 a.m. with the ribbon made of faux-floss.

Sandfly Family Dental associates specialize in general and preventative dentistry, cosmetic and restorative dentistry and orthodontic treatments.

Canfield will donate 10 percent of new patient procedures during the first week to the Savannah Children’s Theatre. She also will host a school-supply drive for the Isle of Hope Elementary and Middle School.

Microbrewery breaks ground in Bluffton

BLUFFTON, S.C. — Southern Barrel Brewing Co. has broken ground in Buckwalter Place, where it’s building its 12,500-square-foot headquarters, which also will be Bluffton’s first microbrewery.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature a 10,000-square-foot production facility, a 2,500-square-foot tavern serving food and an outdoor beer garden. It’s scheduled to open in February 2015 with beer production starting before the facility opens to the public.

Southern Barrel will begin crafting eight types of beer including lager, amber, IPA, stout and wheat beers.

Owner Stewart Taylor said plans to hire about 10 people as the facility opens.
