Gulfstream donates $225,000 to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University has received a $225,000 contribution from Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. to support research and education at the university.

“Engaging in partnerships with Gulfstream allows Georgia Southern to continue to have a significant impact on preparing students for the workforce and strengthening communities for many generations to come,” said Georgia Southern President Brooks A. Keel. “It’s companies like Gulfstream that help open doors to other opportunities with companies that have similar needs and goals. Together we can make a difference in the lives, communities and companies of our city, state and region.”

The funds from Gulfstream will go toward Georgia Southern’s newly designated manufacturing engineering degree program, the Institute for Interdisciplinary STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Education’s i2Explore STEM Festival, student co-op and internship opportunities and the College of Education’s National Youth at Risk Center.

The manufacturing engineering degree program will receive $100,000 to advance its infrastructure.

 

SCORE business lecture set for Wednesday

This lecture will offer new or established business owners keys to successfully applying for a business loan and hearing the lender say “yes.”

The presentation will be in the SCORE conference room, 111 E. Liberty St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, by Thomas Butler, vice-president/ business relationship manager at Wells Fargo.

Butler, who graduated from Georgia Southern with a bachelor’s degree in sales management, has 29 years experience in the financial service industry.

His current duties center on understanding client business systems in detail, business goals, strategies and challenges to identify the financial aspects of each area and create suitable solutions.

Trade Center to host international business program

World Trade Center Savannah will host International Business 101 Program from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at World Trade Center Savannah, 131 Hutchinson Island Road.

Sponsored by Bernard Williams, the program is open to anyone interested in moving into international markets. Attendees will hear from a panel of local finance, insurance and global logistics experts on such topics as succeeding in the global marketplace, moving freight in foreign markets, insuring your business, and international trade finance.

A question and answer session will be held by the panel of speakers to conclude the program.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, go to wtcsavannah.org.
